A lawyer and blogger, Prince Williams-Joel, has launched a book on real estate investment entitled, ‘Compilation of Articles on Law & Property in Nigeria: Simplified’.

According to Williams-Joel, the thriving real estate sector in the country is not without its peculiarities and emerging trends, and this has thrown up the necessity for an assemblage of resource materials on varying subject matters in real estate practice in Nigeria with particular focus on addressing industrial challenges.

Williams-Joel stated that from his years of experience in real estate, he was able to describe realities of land/property acquisition and ownership in the book, and was able to rectify misguided notions about financing property investment in Nigeria.

He expressed his disapproval of investors not knowing or understanding their rights on land/property matters before acquisition.

“It must be noted that certificate of statutory or customary right of occupancy issued under the Land Use Act, 1978 cannot be said to be conclusive evidence of any right or valid title to a land. It is, at best, the only evidence that is accepted until being challenged and proved otherwise,” he said.

According to Williams-Joel, it will be very wise to contact a real property law firm with great expertise when buying a land or property in the country.

The book launch, which was hosted by the British Nigeria Law Forum, in collaboration with Prince Joel & Associates, held in London, according to a statement by the firm.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson, BNLF, Seye Aina, encouraged Nigerians based in the United Kingdom to take advantage of the opportunity that the book launch presented to collaborate and increase investments in properties in Nigeria.

Aina said the book was a compilation of some of the enlightening online works of the owner and Editor-in-Chief of Ibeju Lekki Lawyer, Williams-Joel, to equip readers far and wide.

He stated that the publication was a handbook of property transactional knowledge to be recommended to real estate practitioners, financiers, developers, lawyers and investors alike.
